Privacy Policy
Applies to the iOS app “DashTW”, including its Home Screen widgets and weather Live Activity.
Last updated: 11 September 2026 · Effective: 11 September 2026
The short version:
- DashTW has no accounts and no sign-up. We do not collect your name, phone number, or email address.
- Your precise location stays on your device. Only when you actively search for nearby on-street spaces does the app send a coordinate reduced to roughly 110-metre precision. We do not use it to build or store a location history.
- Other data that leaves the device is the technical record any internet connection creates (your IP address), plus the device identifiers used by the advertising and crash-reporting services.
- We do not sell personal data.
1. Who handles your data
DashTW is built and maintained by an independent developer (“we”). For the processing described here, we act as the data controller. Contact details are in section 11.
2. Location
With your permission, the app uses your device location in the following situations:
- While using the app (When In Use): centering the map near you, computing distances to trash cans, toilets, stations and so on, finding the closest weather station, and searching for nearby on-street spaces when you tap the search button.
- Always (optional): needed only if you enable the weather Live Activity. When iOS detects that you have moved a significant distance, it wakes the app so the Lock Screen Live Activity can switch to the station nearest your new position. Everything in the app works without this permission — the Live Activity simply will not follow you in the background.
How location is used: ordinary map features and station distances are calculated on your device. When the app asks for one weather station, it sends a station code (for example 466920), not your position. Only when you actively search for nearby on-street spaces does the app first reduce the coordinate to 3 decimal places (roughly 110-metre precision), then send it to our server to obtain results within one kilometre. Your precise coordinate remains on the device for final distance filtering. The approximate coordinate is not written to our application logs, used to build a location history, or shared with third parties.
You can change or revoke this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → DashTW.
3. Data that stays on your device
The following is stored only on your device (partly in an App Group container so the widgets can read it). It is never uploaded and never synced to any cloud account:
- Places you have added to watch, layer and display preferences, theme choice, notification toggles.
- The latest weather / fuel-price / grid-status snapshot shown by the widgets and Live Activity.
- A local cache of open data, so the same file is not downloaded twice.
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
4. Records created when you contact our server
Data for some layers is served by our own cache server, which runs on a third-party hosting provider. As with any website, the connection itself creates technical records:
- IP address, request time and path, User-Agent, and the country inferred from the connection.
These are used only to prevent abuse and traffic floods (per-IP rate limiting), to investigate unusual traffic, and to confirm the service is healthy. They are not used to identify individuals, are not joined to anything you do in the app, are never shared or sold, and expire within days as the logs rotate.
5. Requests made directly to government open data
Other layers are fetched by the app directly from each government agency’s open-data endpoint, without passing through us. For those requests the agency sees your IP address and what you requested, and their handling is governed by that agency’s own privacy policy, outside our control. The design choice is about freshness and availability; we attach nothing that identifies you to those requests.
6. Third-party services
The app embeds the services below. Each may collect device-level identifiers and technical information:
| Service | Purpose | May receive | Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Banner and interstitial ads in the free version | Advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), device and coarse region data, ad interactions, SKAdNetwork attribution | Details |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash and error diagnostics | Crash stack traces, device model, OS and app version, anonymous installation identifier | Details |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Aggregate usage statistics (which layers get used, retention) | Anonymous installation identifier, events, device and region data | Details |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging | Push notifications (service notices, data-source outages) | APNs / FCM push token | Details |
| Firebase Remote Config | Settings that can be adjusted without shipping an update | Anonymous installation identifier, app version | Details |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status and purchase restoration | A randomly generated anonymous App User ID, subscription and transaction status | Details |
| Apple (App Store / StoreKit) | Payment, subscription management, refunds | Handled by Apple; we never receive your Apple ID, name, or payment details | Details |
Ads and App Tracking Transparency
The free version shows ads. iOS asks once whether the app may track you:
- Allow: AdMob may use the advertising identifier (IDFA) to personalize ads.
- Ask App Not to Track (the default): you see non-personalized ads only, and nothing about the app changes.
You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. With the premium subscription, the app shows no ads at all and the ad SDK stops requesting them.
7. Notifications
There are two kinds:
- Local notifications (radar echo alert, next week’s fuel-price direction, watched-place alerts): decided and delivered entirely on your device. No location or other data leaves the device.
- Remote push (service notices): delivered through Apple APNs and Firebase Cloud Messaging, which requires a push token tied to your device. The messages contain no personal data.
Both can be turned off in iOS Settings or in the app’s settings screen.
8. What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal data.
- We do not collect or store your location history.
- We do not ask you to create an account or hand over contact details.
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; the app is not directed at children.
9. Your choices and rights
You can do all of the following yourself, without contacting us:
- Revoke or downgrade location access, turn off notifications, and change your tracking choice (all in iOS Settings).
- Reset the advertising identifier in iOS Settings to break any existing ad association.
- Delete the app, which removes everything stored on the device.
- Manage or cancel the subscription in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
If the law where you live (for example Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act, or the EU GDPR) gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, or restriction, you may exercise them by writing to us. Because we hold no data that identifies you, the fastest help we can usually give is pointing you to the right control in the third-party services above; data held by those services should be requested from them under their own policies.
10. Retention
- On-device settings and caches: until you delete the app or clear the cache.
- Server connection records: expire automatically within days.
- Data held by third-party services: per their own policies.
11. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data: support@dashhq.app. We usually reply within a few business days.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date at the top of this page changes with it; material changes will also be announced in the app. Continuing to use the app means you accept the updated policy.
